Polyglycerin-6

Well toleratedHumectanthumectantsolventskin conditioning

No meaningful concern for most people; irritation is possible but rare.

Also written as: Hexaglycerin

What it is

Polyglycerin-6 is made by linking glycerin molecules into a short chain. It draws water in like glycerin but is larger, so it feels less sticky and stays closer to the skin surface. It also acts as a mild solvent for other ingredients.

What it does well

  • Hydrates without the tackiness of high-glycerin formulas

Polyglycerins are used as humectants where a formulator wants moisture-binding with a lighter, drier skin feel.

    Moderate evidence
