What it is

This is a cross-linked acrylic acid polymer carrying long alkyl (C10-30) side chains, which give it a water-loving backbone and oil-loving anchors. That dual nature lets it thicken the water phase and stabilise oil droplets at the same time, so lightweight lotions and gel-creams can be made with little or no conventional emulsifier.

What it does well

  • Stabilises light emulsions with minimal emulsifier

    It allows fresh, non-greasy gel-cream textures that would otherwise need higher levels of surfactant-type emulsifiers, which some sensitive skins tolerate less well.
