What it is
This is a sodium-salt acrylic copolymer usually supplied as a liquid inverse emulsion, which means it can be stirred into a formula cold and thickens within seconds. It gives creams and lotions a smooth, cushiony body and holds oil droplets in place, so it is widely used in cream masks and sleeping masks.
What it does well
Produces smooth, stable cream textures without high-shear processing
It thickens and stabilises across a broad pH range and in the presence of electrolytes, which makes for consistent texture through the product's shelf life.
