What it is

This is sodium hyaluronate whose chains have been chemically bonded to one another to form a three-dimensional gel network rather than free-floating strands. The network resists being washed or rubbed away and swells with water, so it holds hydration at the surface for longer than standard hyaluronate. It is not the same material as an injectable dermal filler, even though the cross-linking idea is borrowed from one.

What it does well

  • Longer-lasting surface hydration than plain hyaluronate

    Cross-linking slows breakdown and washing-off, so the hydrating film persists longer on skin. Reviews of hyaluronic acid forms describe this as a formulation advantage rather than a different biological effect.

  • Cross-linking does not make it act like an injectable filler

    The large cross-linked network is far too big to cross the stratum corneum, so it works purely at the surface. Any comparison to injectable volumising is marketing.
