Sorbitan Isostearate
No meaningful concern for most people; irritation is possible but rare.
What it is
This is sorbitol esterified with isostearic acid, a branched fatty acid that stays liquid and resists oxidation. The branching gives it a lighter, less greasy feel than straight-chain sorbitan esters, which is why it turns up in cleansing balms and make-up removing masks.
What it does well
Helps oil-based cleansers emulsify and rinse off
It allows a balm or oil to turn milky with water so it lifts away rather than leaving a film.
