Phenethyl Alcohol

What it is
Phenethyl alcohol is the main aromatic component of rose oil and is also produced synthetically. It has modest antimicrobial activity, particularly against Gram-negative bacteria, so it is used as a booster in preservative blends while also contributing a soft floral note. It is not on the EU list of preservatives, and unlike benzyl alcohol it is not on the EU's list of individually declarable fragrance allergens.
