What it is

Rice bran is the nutrient-dense layer removed when brown rice is milled to white. Its extract is richer than plain rice extract, containing ferulic acid, gamma-oryzanol and tocopherols - all genuine antioxidants. It is used for antioxidant support and a softening, conditioning effect.

What it does well

  • Supplies antioxidants including ferulic acid and gamma-oryzanol

The antioxidant activity of ferulic acid and gamma-oryzanol is well established in laboratory work, and both are used specifically to stabilise other antioxidants. How much of this translates to visible benefit at cosmetic levels is less clear.
