Schaebens
Gesichtsmaske peel off Aktivkohle Strong
€4.95
Worth reading beside its own eight-ingredient sibling: same first three entries - water, denatured alcohol, polyvinyl alcohol - then cellulose to thicken the film, and the additions that earn the 'Strong' label sit at ten and twelve, salicylic acid and zinc PCA. Shea seedcake extract and liquorice temper it. The pack aims it at the T-zone rather than the whole face.
What stands out in the list
Worked out from the ingredients, not the packaging claims.
Contains fragrance
Listed as Parfum/Fragrance, which can stand for dozens of undisclosed aroma chemicals. Fragrance is one of the most common causes of cosmetic contact allergy.
Drying alcohol, high in the list
Alcohol Denat. appears at position 2, so it is a major part of the formula. Expect a fast, matte finish and possible tightness on dry or reactive skin.
Exfoliating acids
Contains Salicylic Acid. Use sunscreen the following day; EU law caps these (Salicylic Acid: EU max 2% (most face products, incl. masks); 3% (rinse-off hair); 0.5% (body lotion, eye/lip make-up, roll-on deodorant); 0.5% when used as a preservative).
2 concentration-capped ingredients
EU law sets a maximum for Salicylic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide. Products on sale in the EU must comply.
1 ingredient flagged for pregnancy
Salicylic Acid is usually avoided or used with caution during pregnancy. This is what the ingredient entries say, not medical advice, so ask your midwife or doctor.

- Worth knowing
- EU-restricted, a common contact allergen, or subject to live debate.
- Avoid
- Banned in EU cosmetics or credibly linked to serious harm.
- Not yet documented
- No encyclopaedia entry for this ingredient yet, so we make no claim about it.

How to use it
Spread a very thin, even layer over the cleansed T-zone or affected areas, avoiding the eyes and lips. After 20 to 30 minutes, peel carefully from the edges towards the centre and rinse away any remainder with warm water.
