Balea

Gesichtsmaske Aloe Vera

The one detail that matters: there is no Aqua anywhere in this list. Aloe barbadensis leaf juice is the first ingredient and the entire water phase, which is the real version of a claim most aloe products only gesture at. Sunflower oil second and shea butter eighth make it rich. All that for 23 cents an application.

What stands out in the list

Worked out from the ingredients, not the packaging claims.

  • Contains fragrance

Listed as Parfum/Fragrance, which can stand for dozens of undisclosed aroma chemicals. Fragrance is one of the most common causes of cosmetic contact allergy.

  • 2 declared fragrance allergens

EU law requires these to be named on the pack: Linalyl Acetate, Tetramethyl Acetyloctahydronaphthalenes.

  • 1 concentration-capped ingredient

EU law sets a maximum for Sodium Hydroxide. Products on sale in the EU must comply.

  • No drying alcohol

No ethanol, alcohol denat. or isopropyl alcohol in the list. Fatty alcohols such as cetearyl alcohol are not drying and do not count.

  • Nothing flagged for pregnancy

No ingredient on this list is one our encyclopaedia marks as avoided or used with caution in pregnancy. That is not the same as a clearance, so check with your midwife or doctor.

  • Barrier-supporting actives

Contains Panthenol, ingredients with reasonable evidence for calming and supporting the skin barrier.
