Hyaluron Maske

A German drugstore fixture, and the list has a genuine curiosity in it: Quark Cheese, declared straight, alongside a radish-root ferment and Hoya lacunosa flower extract. Macadamia oil and shea butter are high; the sodium hyaluronate the name sells is fourteenth. Piroctone olamine, normally an anti-dandruff active, is in here too.

What stands out in the list

Worked out from the ingredients, not the packaging claims.

  • Contains fragrance

Listed as Parfum/Fragrance, which can stand for dozens of undisclosed aroma chemicals. Fragrance is one of the most common causes of cosmetic contact allergy.

  • 4 declared fragrance allergens

EU law requires these to be named on the pack: Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool.

  • 1 concentration-capped ingredient

EU law sets a maximum for Sodium Hydroxide. Products on sale in the EU must comply.

  • No drying alcohol

No ethanol, alcohol denat. or isopropyl alcohol in the list. Fatty alcohols such as cetearyl alcohol are not drying and do not count.

  • Nothing flagged for pregnancy

No ingredient on this list is one our encyclopaedia marks as avoided or used with caution in pregnancy. That is not the same as a clearance, so check with your midwife or doctor.
